PRESIDENT BANDA REDEPLOYS WORKS AND SUPPLY PERMANENT SECRETARY

LUSAKA, April 19, 2010 – His Excellency, Mr. Rupiah Banda, President of the Republic of Zambia, has with immediate effect redeployed Works and Supply Permanent Secretary Rt. Col. Bizwayo Nkunika to another position to be announced later.

The President has since appointed Mr. Watson Ngambi as new Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Supply. The appointment is with immediate effect.

President Banda has also directed Works and Supply Minister Hon. Mike Mulongoti, MP, to immediately dissolve the board of the Roads Development Agency (RDA). Further, President Banda has directed the Minister of Finance and National Planning, Hon. Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, to dissolve the board of the National Roads Fund Agency (NRFA) with immediate effect. The re-constituted boards will be announced soon.

The President said the changes he has effected in the Ministry of Works and Supply and specifically in the roads sector, are meant to enhance transparency and accountability so as to speed up the construction of roads throughout the country.

Last week, President Banda directed the Minister of Finance and National planning to mobilize additional funds for construction of key roads in all provinces in the country. The President said he wanted to see the acceleration of road works this month as the rain season comes to an end.
