Government commends hardworking Kawambwa farmers
Kawambwa, August 29, 2011, ZANIS -- Luapula Province Permanent Secretary, Stephen Bwalya has commended subsistence farmers in Kawambwa district in Luapula Province for their hard work. Mr. Bwalya says government is happy that hardworking farmers in the District have continued to work hard under trying situation to produce enough and make the district a notable contributor to nation’s bumper harvest for the second time in a role.
ZANIS reports the provincial permanent secretary saying this in Kawambwa at the weekend.
This was during the Malaila traditional ceremony of the Chishinga people in Senior Chief Mushota’s area. He said government was grateful at Kawambwa farmers’ hard work and has since put measures to bring development in terms of agriculture.
“The early delivery of 17, 370 x 50 kilogramme bags of Urea and D. compound fertilizers for the 2011 and 2012 farming season is the one of the measures the government has put in place. This is to ensure that farmers receive the inputs on time,“Mr Bwalya said.
He also said Kawambwa district is experiencing bumper harvests because of the government’s efforts.
Meanwhile, Mr Bwalya has reminded the people of Mushota’s area not to sell their maize to briefcase businesspersons.
He advised farmers should be patient and sell their maize to the food Reserve Agency (FRA) that is able to purchase at the government’s floor price.
