President Sata recognises new Chief Chikwanda

 LUSAKA, Thursday, January 19, 2012 – His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, President of the Republic of Zambia, has recognized Mr. Maxwell Kafula Mucheleka as Chief Chikwanda of the Bemba people of Mpika in Muchinga Province.

The appointment of Mr Mucheleka to the Chikwanda chieftaincy follows the ascension of Chief Chikwanda (Mr James Ngandu) to position of Senior Chief Nkula of the Bemba people of Chinsali in Muchinga Province.

The President signed the Recognition Order number 65/21 today, January 19, 2012 under the authority of the Chiefs Act, Chapter 287 of the Laws of Zambia.

The recognition follows Mr. Mucheleka’s selection to ascend to the throne at a meeting held on 6th January 2012 at Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s Palace. The selection is in line with Bemba custom and traditions.

In appointing Mr Mucheleka, Mwine-Lubemba Chitimukulu stated that in line with the powers vested in him by the Bemba people through the Lubemba Nchenje Council and by the laws of Zambia, he had with immediate effect appointed Mr Mucheleka as the new Chief Chikwanda to reign over the people of Ichinama area in Mpika.

Meanwhile, President Sata has appointed Hon. Dorothy Kazunga as Deputy Minister of Community Development, Mother and Child Health in charge of Community Services.

The appointment is with immediate effect.
