Education ministry to launch campaign against drug abuse

MINISTER of Education Dora Siliya says her ministry is this month expected to launch a campaign against underage drinking and drug abuse.Ms Siliya said in Lusaka on Monday that the Ministry of Education has organised a student conference that will take place in Lusaka to launch the campaign.

She said the ministry, with the help of co-operatiang partners, is determined to curb the underage drinking problem.

Ms Siliya said the Ministry of Education has partnered with Zambian Breweries, Lusaka City Council, Kenya Airways and Zain-Zambia to disseminate the message on underage drinking and drug abuse.

“On September 25, we are hosting this conference aimed at putting up measures which can help curb underage drinking and drug abuse in schools,” Ms Siliya said.

She said the ‘Education For All’ campaign will also be re-launched at the same conference because every child has the right to education.

“Alcohol and drug abuse is a very big problem. We are trying to address it in the education sector because if left unchecked the future of our children will be at stake,” Ms Siliya said.

Ms Siliya called on parents to support the conference and ensure that all children are in school.
