THE Government has allocated K25 billion for the construction of Mufumbwe High School, North-Western Province Minister, Daniel Kalenga has said. Mr Kalenga reiterated the Government’s commitment to providing quality education by improving infrastructure and recruiting more teachers, especially for rural areas that have acute understaffing.

The minister said this in a speech read for him by provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary, Nkolola Hazemba during this year’s Ntongo traditional ceremony of the Kaonde-speaking people at Chief Chizela’s Palace in Mufumbwe.

Mr Kalenga said the construction of Mufumbwe District Hospital had been completed at K4.5 billion and the contractor would hand it over soon.

He said the Government would continue rehabilitating and constructing health centres and houses for health personnel to take health services closer to the people.

Meanwhile, Mr Kalenga has appealed to traditional leaders to sensitise people in their respective areas on the need to campaign and vote peacefully as the country heads to the polls next year.

“I urge you to change the picture that Mufumbwe has given to the rest of the country as a violent district by being peaceful in the next elections,” he said.

Speaking at the same occasion, Chief Chizela endorsed the candidature of President Rupiah Banda for next year’s general elections.

The traditional leader, in a speech read for him by the royal establishment chairperson Bombwe Shilanga, said President Banda and the MMD administration had initiated good policies in various sectors of the economy that had benefited many Zambians. —ZANIS
